Organizers of former Mayor Bob Cashell's funeral are expecting large crowds to attend the services Thursday afternoon.

A funeral procession of police and other city workers is expected to start about noon from Walton's Funeral Home on West Second Street. The procession will pass north under the Reno Arch before heading to the Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church at 100 Bishop Manogue Drive.

Traffic is expected to be affected along the procession route.

Services at the church begin at 1:30 p.m. More than 1,600 people are expected to attend and the church has parking for only 1,000 vehicles. Organizers are urging people to car pool or use the free bus service being offered by the Regional Transportation Commission.

Overflow parking for the service will be located at the Walmart parking lot at 155 Damonte Ranch Parkway in Reno. Attendees can board the bus at the RTC Route 56 northbound bus stop on Virginia Street, adjacent to the parking lot.

The bus will run continuously between the parking lot and the church from noon until 4 p.m.

Four friends from Cashell's life as a politician, athletics booster and casino owner are expected to deliver eulogies during the funeral mass: political advisor Jimmy Minor; former Nevada football coach Chris Ault; casino owner Gary Carano; and developer Perry Di Loreto.

Cashell's son Robert A. Cashell, Jr., is also expected to say a eulogy for his father.

A reception following the funeral mass is open to the public. It is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Downtown Ballroom, at 401 North Center Street.
